Search the blog

StirGate, from the University of Stirling Library, is a new way of searching for journal articles, web sites and other useful publications.  With one simple search you can browse up to 100 library resources.  These are the top 100 resources selected from our A-Z list of Online Resources and Subject Research Guides.

Using StirGate is far faster than searching each individual library resource separately, and it very quickly gives you an overview of information that is available for your topic.  It can also help you discover some new useful resources for your subject area.

Linking to StirGate

You can search StirGate from the Portal; from the Resources tab.  Or choose StirGate from the A-Z list of Online Resources.

How to Search

  • Enter your search keywords, for example: learning and memory

  • Select a Subject Category, for example: psychology

  • Click on Search

After a few moments you’ll see the list of results.  This is a list of the resources searched and the number of records found in each.

Select a resource name, e.g. Web of Science, to browse its list of records.  Records will include details of journal articles, web sites, etc.

Select the View button to link to the record within the Library Resource.

Or select the Check fulltext at Stirling button – this will link you to WebBridge – from there you can link to the full text if it’s available or use the Search the Library Catalogue option to check if the library has a copy.

What do you think?

StirGate is on trial for this academic session – so we’d love to know what you think of it. Please post your comments below or send your thoughts in an email.

The latest upgrade to Web of Science included a number of changes. Major changes include:

  • ISI Proceedings – Science (for scientific and technical conference papers) has been renamed “Conference Proceedings Citation Index – Science”
  • Conference Proceedings Citation Index – Science is now integrated into the Web of Science search along with the other Citation Indexes: Science, Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities
  • You can choose to search each Citation Index individually, or in any combination, from the foot of the Web of Science search screen
  • Author Cited References from the Conference Proceedings Citation Indexes are now included in Web of Science (from 1999 onwards). This means the Times Cited counts for many papers will display sudden increases.
  • A new scientifc web search engine “Scientific WebPlus” has been integrated into Web of Science. Link to WebPlus results from Web of Science result screens – using the Scientific WebPlus link at the top right of the screen.
